Socius

A socius is a record of production, that channels flows of desire in order for a particular mode of production to be socially reproduced (AOC 34-36)

Socius appears in Anti-Oedipus, in the context of the Marxist discussion on labour. "In a word, the socius as a full body forms a surface where all production is recorded" (AOC 11).

This surface is the place where agents and forces are distributed. Social production is organized on top of the socius, and is historical. It gives the socius shape because different ways of channelling it (coding flows of desire) has prevailed throughout history. The territorial machine failed and gave way for the despotic machine, which in turn was replaced by the contemporary; the capitalist machine. (AOC 34-36)
